Fans travel across Europe as Swans face fierce rivals

SWANSEA'S clash with Cardiff at the weekend looks like being an international affair — and that is just in the stands.

Swans fans from as far a field as France, Belgium, Sweden, and the Netherlands are heading to the city for the big match, not to mention supporters from every corner of the UK.

One of the biggest contingents is coming from the Dutch city of The Hague, as a group of more than four dozen fans swap the orange of Holland for the black and white of Swansea City.

Club director Dave Morgan said: "I've been speaking to the ticket office and they said tickets are going all over Europe.

"The Swans have a big following on the continent, with many fans following the progress of the club on the internet.


"Fifty fans are coming over from The Hague for the game.

"Three Swans players — Dorus de Vries, Ferrie Bodde, and Cedric van der Gun — used to play for the city's Den Haag team and there is a lot of interest in the club over there.

"And of course we're expecting lots of exiled Jacks from around Britain to make the trip too."

A sell-out crowd is expected at Saturday's derby match, with Cardiff being given an allocation of 1,800 tickets.

There had been fears that away fans would be barred in a wrangle over the cost of policing the big game, which falls on the same day as Wales play the All Blacks in Cardiff.

But the row was resolved and the rivals will meet at the Liberty with the full roar of the crowd.

Matches between the two clubs have a volatile history and during the late 1990s away fans were shut out after supporters clashed on the field at Cardiff City's Ninian Park.

Last season Bluebirds supporters ripped up seats in the Liberty, while Swans fans clashed with police outside the ground. As fans from overseas make their plan to come to Swansea, the Swans director said there was still a chance for people closer to home to see the action.

"There are some tickets left," said Mr Morgan.

"We want as many people as possible to come to the game and cheer the club on to another win over Cardiff."

Ik vind zo'n een spelletje op de shout nou ook niet echt volwassen.  Maar ach ieder zijn ding, er zijn zelfs volwassen mannen die graag in een luier rondlopen Vincent.

 

Ik irriteer me aan het feit dat er shouters zijn die wel de moeite nemen om in te loggen maar niet even een e-mail naar je toe kunnen sturen.

 

En omdat je het zo irritant vind post je je eigen (lekker belangrijk) toto 3 keer??

Wigan-spits Scotland hoopt op komst Bodde
Jason Scotland hoopt zich binnenkort weer teamgenoot van Ferrie Bodde te kunnen noemen. De aanvaller maakte afgelopen zomer de overstap van Swansea City naar Wigan Athletic en ziet Bodde hem nu mogelijk volgen.


Wigan-trainer Roberto Martínez, die afgelopen zomer ook overkwam van Swansea, is bijzonder gecharmeerd van Bodde. Een deal is echter nog niet beklonken, tot teleurstelling van Scotland.

"Ferrie is een zeer goede speler en het zou natuurlijk fantastisch zijn om hem hier te zien voetballen", zegt Scotland tegenover de Wigan Evening Post. "In mijn periode bij Swansea deed Bodde het fantastisch. Er zijn momenten dat een speler toe is aan de volgende stap."

"We moeten afwachten, maar hopelijk maakt hij snel de overstap. Hij wordt ook wel de Nederlandse Roy Keane genoemd en dat is niet voor niets", zo besluit Scotland zijn lofzang over Bodde. Dinsdag deed Wigan nog een bod op de 27-jarige middenvelder, maar dat wees Swansea resoluut af.


Hij is niet de enige die dat hoopt!

Juist, die shout kan ik mij nog wel herrineren. Niet letterlijk natuurlijk, maar ook JB had het hierover, net als jij. 
Nou Kees, ik ben benieuwd met die Swansea-baasjes zoals die Jenkins. Het heeft echt heel veel moeite gekost om Bodde los te weken daar. En ze moeten nog het ja-woord geven. Want dat staat er niet bij. Ik hoop dat het nu allemaal doorgang vindt. Ze doen zo vreselijk moeilijk daar!!

Zouden wij dan toch nog versterkingen gaan krijgen?Het is te mooi om waar te zijn, vandaar.
 

Jongens laten we ons niet rijk rekenen. Ook een recent bericht in de Evening Post die in Swansea verschijnt, wijst erop dat de voorzitter van Swansea het bod van Wigan heeft afgewezen.

SWANSEA City have rejected another offer for Ferrie Bodde — this time from Wigan Athletic.
The bid, believed to be around £4.5m, was immediately turned down by Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, who claimed Bodde was in talks to extend his stay at the Liberty Stadium.
"Not only have we rejected the bid, but it`s an offer we wouldn`t even think twice about considering," said Jenkins.
"In fact, the way it is structured — over such a long period of time and appearance related — it doesn`t even constitute an offer.
"It certainly doesn`t come anywhere near our valuation, especially when we have no intention of losing him.
"Ferrie and his agent are well aware of Wigan`s interest. In fact, we have been speaking about a new deal for a number of weeks.
"The talks have been extremely positive and once Ferrie is fit and playing again then we`ll be trying to tie him down to Swansea for the next few years.
"Ferrie is more than happy here and is looking forward to getting himself match fit and pulling on a Swansea shirt again.
"He`s training with the squad again after his knee injury and it should only be a few weeks before he is available for selection.
"He can`t wait to make his comeback and reinforce Paulo Sousa`s squad for the rest of the Championship campaign."
Roberto Martinez has already taken ex-Swansea players Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez with him to Wigan over the summer.

Ik denk dat de reactie van Whappo net zo cynisch was als mijn post van die 3 RBC spelers.

Maar inderdaad, kennelijk zijn er hier een aantal geinteresseerd in spelers die bij andere, min of meer gelijkwaardige clubs "links buiten het veld" staan.

Zelf ben ik voor echte versterkingen.
Lukt dat op korte termijn niet op het veld, dan maar in de financien.

Bodde staying with Swans

FERRIE Bodde has pledged his immediate future to Swansea City.
The Evening Post understands the Dutch ace has told club chairman Huw Jenkins he intends staying at the Liberty Stadium, despite interest from Bolton.
The Premier League outfit have been trailing Bodde throughout the summer and were keen to land him for a fee in the region of £3 million. But Swansea dug their heels in and demanded £5 million. And Jenkins looks to have won his battle to keep hold of the player — for now, at least.
Bolton boss Gary Megson had demanded a final answer from Swansea over a possible sale by Monday night. But it is understood Bodde has not asked for a transfer or shown a willingness to leave the Championship club.
Instead, the 27-year-old has chosen to focus on his career at the Liberty Stadium and making a successful return from injury.
That is a huge boost to manager Paulo Sousa as the former Den Haag star is tipped to return to first-team action within six weeks.
Bodde seems keen to repay Swansea for the way they treated him following the cruciate ligament injury suffered last November that ruled him of the rest of the season.
It remains to be seen whether Bolton test Swansea`s resolve with an improved offer, but Megson has indicated he is likely to pursue other targets.
